What to expect
Our tour kicks off at the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine, home to the stunning Brancacci Chapel. In the 1420s, Masaccio and Masolino painted their revolutionary fresco cycle here, depicting the life of Saint Peter, often called “the Sistine Chapel of the 1400s”.This masterpiece clearly shows the pivotal shift from Medieval art to the new Renaissance style. You’ll witness how the saint’s stories come alive through groundbreaking use of perspective and monumental anatomy, achieving a perfect balance of form and meaning. This chapel is truly a milestone that influenced generations of artists.
Next, we’ll head to the Santo Spirito neighborhood to visit its namesake church. This was Filippo Brunelleschi’s final project, and it’s filled with masterpieces, including a wooden crucifix carved by a very young Michelangelo.
The Oltrarno district is renowned for its traditional artisan workshops. Along our walk, we’ll pause at one of our favorite spots. Here, you’ll see small masterpieces still crafted by hand today, with incredible patience and precision.
We’ll also enjoy a delightful stop to recharge with coffee and gelato at one of our favorite downtown cafes.
Afterwards, we’ll pass by the magnificent Pitti Palace. Once a grand Medici royal residence, it now majestically guards incredibly rich art collections.
Our tour concludes back on the Arno River, at Florence’s most iconic bridge: the Ponte Vecchio. This historic bridge beautifully blends romantic views with captivating stories.
