What to expect

Tell me what you eat and I will tell you who you are!”. In order to understand the Tuscans, one needs to look at their dishes. This tour travels the streets of the city centre between the past and the present, discovering how our relation with food has changed over the centuries and what has instead remained intact. We will start from the places where food was sold in the Middle Ages and Renaissance: from the Old Market to the ancient Fish Loggia. Our first tasting session of the day involves a true Italian-style breakfast: coffee or cappuccino plus a pastry, before visiting a market where the various fruit, vegetables, meat, pasta and cheese stands will help us understand how the true secret behind Italian cuisine is the selection of the very best seasonal ingredients, the key elements of simple dishes capable of highlighting their flavours. We will tell you how, over the course of the centuries, the consumption of certain foods was considered a sort of status symbol and how at the same time the genius of the local farmers created delicious recipes with products from their cultivations, still today featured in some of the most refined restaurants of the city.

During our various stops, we will taste cold cuts, cheeses, olives, schiacciata, accompanied by a delicious glass of Chianti wine. The visit will finish with a gelato or another seasonal dessert.
