What to expect
Almost like the Royal Palace of Florence, Palazzo Pitti rises on Boboli Hill, towering over all the other Florentine buildings in both size and magnificence.
But why is the palace called “Pitti”? And how did the Medici manage to purchase it from the Pitti family?
After uncovering its fascinating history, we will cross through its grand gate and head to the first floor, home to an extensive collection of paintings. But don’t worry—we’ll focus on the must-see masterpieces by Raphael, Caravaggio, Rubens, and Titian.
As we stroll through the galleries, don’t forget to look up! The Baroque-style frescoes on the ceilings will take your breath away.
Yet, the true gem lies outside, at the back of the palace: the Boboli Gardens.
The most famous of all Italian gardens, it boasts a stunning collection of citrus trees, a wide variety of roses, artificial grottoes, splendid fountains, and countless statues. It never ceases to amaze with its diverse plant life and breathtaking views of the city and the enchanting countryside surrounding Florence.
Can you imagine a 12-acre garden designed solely for the pleasure of one family?
For centuries, the Medici family—who ruled Florence—walked along these very paths. And we will follow in their footsteps, uncovering stories of their intrigues, scandals, and love affairs.
A true garden of wonders!
